Stay Home and Vote!

All of my children have been privileged to see my husband and I exercise our voting rights. Young children love to mimic their parent’s words and actions. I can Teach my Child demonstrates how you can create the polls at home for your young voters in yesterday’s Pretend Play: Voting post.

Creating a pretend play station in your home can be simple and easy with items around the house. If you don’t have the time or resources to devote to this right now, decide on something you want your family to vote on. It can be as complex as your next vacation spot or divvying up chores. It can be as simple as what restaurant you will visit tonight for dinner or what bedtime story to read. Decide if it will be a show of hands or a secret ballot. Majority wins! Giving children a vote in something that directly affects them will help sharpen their basic democratic skills and enrich their lives!

Being the only female in our home, I am the minority! When voting on movies or restaurants, my vote rarely wins! What does your family vote on?
