Hunting Widow Series|Day 6| Smories, Smores & Relief

Deep breaths! Mid-week meltdown, perhaps?

We really don’t want our kids being babysat by the TV or video games when we find that we need a break!

What to do?

In honor of a tough day, I am sharing a great new website for kids. You both are going to totally LOVE IT, Smories. Smories are stories for kids, read by kids. I like that Smories is making a free resource available for kids, on-line, where they can have stories read to them by other kids. It’s a simple, safe alternative to sites like youtube where young viewers can click away to unknown destinations, plus it’s educational. It is a relatively new site. They film young Smory-tellers (so cute) with a Flip Video Camera to give the feel of being read to right in your own home. The videos are also unedited so, if perhaps, they stumble on a word, it is left in the video to create a natural read as they only have read the book once out loud so there is no rehearsing….it’s all natural and fun.

This project is based in the UK so the children’s accents are interesting and sure to keep the attention of your young ones. Next time you’re having a difficult time keeping the kids occupied while you make dinner, have them watch Smories. There are a lot to choose from. They won’t be bored. They are broken down by age groups, about 3-8 years old, as well as categories. Sign up for emails when a new Smory is posted. Consider an iphone and ipad application for Smories on the go. A great way to keep kids occupied in so many situations. Reward them with a special bedtime story brought to them by Smories.

Here is an excerpt from their website on safety: All stories are vetted before being narrated and published. To the best of our knowledge, no inappropriate, offensive or harmful content appears on this site. Smory-tellers will remain anonymous.

Your kids are going to be begging you for computer time but, it will be worth it to get you back in the ‘A’ game of parenting. Smories is such a captivating name. Perhaps, today calls for a smore watching Smories. I know I could use some chocolate!

Still overwhelmed and burnt out? Need more relief? If you can get the computer away from your children’s Smory addiction then perhaps visit the Irritable Mother. I’ve had the pleasure meeting and listening to Karen Hossink speak. She brings hope to overwhelmed moms through touching and heartfelt stories about motherhood and her journey with God through her website, blog, books, speaking engagements, video clips, interviews and more. I often find myself landing at her site just to find some peace in the hectic day. She offers a Free Survival Kit that can be sent to your email. It’s worth a visit!

Are you perhaps looking for some, humorous support and a place to connect with other Hunting Widows? Hunting Widow, based in Montana, offers some unique Hunting Widow merchandise as well as great resources. They also have a blog and facebook page that is worth reading.

There is finally a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you can see it!
