After Cyber Monday (now that is one Monday that I loved), we are getting lots of packages arriving at the door. The kids know the drill, mail truck stops, doorbells rings, package is dropped, driver dashes while they scream, “mom, you have a package!” Today was no different but one package was not addressed to me, it was addressed to the Bunkhouse Boys!
They excitedly ripped opened their package to find an Elf and book. They were puzzled by the contents and who it was from, “the North Pole?”
We read the book right away. We found the book to be very informative and simply adorable with its rhymes and illustrations. Apparently, Santa sent us a “scouting” Elf that will watch the behavior of the Bunkhouse Boys and report back to Santa every night at the North Pole! I told the kids, that I am in LOVE with Santa and think it’s the best gift he has given us.
I am delighted to introduce the Elf on the Shelf tradition to my family. Better late than never is what I say! Our new tradition is more than a gift from Santa. Instead, he gave us a priceless treasure of creating lasting memories.
The boys can’t agree on the name, Timmie or Buddy, for our newest addition to the family. So they have been affectionately calling him Timmie Buddy the entire day as a wonderful compromise. However, it really doesn’t flow and it’s too much of a mouth full for me.
So they are happy but I am calling him “Buddy” for short!
For those of you who are not familiar with the Elf on the Shelf tradition, I’ll further explain. Children often ask, “how does Santa know if we’re being naughty or nice?” The answer comes in the form of a small Elf who acts as Santa’s eyes and ears, reporting their behavior to St. Nick. Each year the elf returns to perform its assigned task.
To insure only families who wanted a scout elf received one, Santa arranged for each elf coming from the North Pole to hibernate in its box until it was adopted by its new human family. Being given a name would cause the elf to receive its Christmas magic! Visit, The Elf on the Shelf, for more information on the tradition, register your elf and much more!
Follow along with Buddy the Elf while he watches over our Bunkhouse this season!
