86 Year Old Birthday Tradition

I love this man! He is my 86 year old grandfather with the best birthday tradition ever! Since his birthday is the week after Christmas, his mom started a tradition for him when he was just a tyke.

She lovingly hid a $1 bill in the Christmas tree for him to search for beginning a sweet tradition. When he married my grandmother, she carried on the tradition and it’s one I always looked forward to especially as a little girl. Perhaps, I would be the one choosen that year to have the honors of hiding his lucky birthday dollar.

Today, I am lucky enough to have my children share his birthday tradition as they get to find the best hiding spot in the tree and watch with anticipation as he looks for his dollar!

The only rule is that the bill cannot be hid inside of an ornament. We give “hot” and “cold” hints to help him along. When he breaks out the flashlight out we know its serious business. This year it took about 20 minutes for him to find the rolled up bill.

I couldn’t think of a sweeter birthday tradition! Maybe this is a tradition that would fit one of your children’s birthdays!
