Chocolate Covered Strawberry Footballs

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?

I’ve adopted the philosophy, IF YOU CAN’T BEAT ‘EM, JOIN ‘EM! Being the only girl in the house really made me come to terms with that philosophy quickly after I was out numbered when my first son turned 3 years old. He joined the Daddy team and loves to watch football. I take interest to continue to be a prominent part of my sons’ lives.

I really look forward to the Superbowl and all it brings - the commercials! In honor of a fun family night at our house, I am making these simple yet delectable chocolate covered strawberries decorated as footballs! Kids go crazy over ‘em!

How I did it:

Washed and dried 12 (1 quart) strawberries.

Melt 14 oz. of Wilton Dark Cocoa Candy Melts found at Michaels in a Wilton Chocolate Melter Deluxe.

I have melted chocolate in a microwave and a double boiler. I find that sometimes I burn my chocolate in the microwave or have to work quickly before it hardens and spend time re-melting it. The double boiler method works ok for me but sometimes I find that moisture affects the chocolate thus ruining it.

What I really enjoy about this product is that it melts chocolate perfectly and consistently keeping it at the perfect temp. I am able to walk away for a few minutes to tend to kids without having to work quickly fearing it will harden. It takes out all the imperfections of the other melting methods and melts chocolate perfectly every time. Trust me, once you go here you will never go back!

Once the chocolate is melted, I switch the Chocolate Melter from Melt to Warm setting.

Pull back the green leaves of a strawberry to hold as you dip the strawberry in the melted chocolate just leaving a little bit of the red berry exposed.

Set it on wax paper or a silpat to harden. I allow mine to harden naturally but putting them in the refrigerator for 15 minutes works well. Let them set before applying white chocolate stitching.

I did have left over chocolate that I used to make Chocolate Candy Cane Valentine Suckers.

I melted the white chocolate the same way, in my Wilton Chocolate Melter Deluxe. I just had to wash it before switching chocolate flavors.

Once melted, pour the white chocolate into a piping bag with a small round tip to create the football stitches. I am confident that there are other products/chocolate writers on the market that would accomplish the same as melted white chocolate but this is all I had in the house.

Carefully, holding the strawberry, pipe the horizontal line across the top of the strawberry while turning it. Repeat for the bottom line. Then pipe the stitches on the front of the berry.

Let set.

My strawberry leaves dried out after a day and became brittle so I recommend serving that day or cut off the shriveled up leaves if preparing ahead of time.

These treats scored a touchdown with my family! Let me know how your family enjoyed them!
